The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Core Services team. This is a critical role at the heart of our company's transformative journey. You will be at the forefront of a significant greenfield opportunity within a market-leading company, tasked with revolutionizing our core geolocation services and building a new, state-of-the-art anti-fraud system. This role is pivotal in architecting our future, moving beyond legacy systems to build the new microservices-based ecosystem that will power our next-generation products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Management:
  • Manage and Develop Talent: manage and mentor a team of software engineers located in Vietnam and Seattle, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Guide Technical Excellence: Facilitate technical discussions, promote sound engineering practices, and guiding the team in making pragmatic decisions.
  • Lead Team Upskilling: Lead the professional growth and upskilling of your engineers to meet the challenges of our technology evolution. A key part of your role will be developing your team's expertise in Golang, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture as we make this critical transition.
  • Grow the Team: Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, support the career growth of your team members, and recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Core Services & Anti-fraud Innovation:
  • Lead a Foundational Shift: Champion the migration from a monolithic architecture to a modern, microservices-based ecosystem, enabling greater agility and faster development cycles.
  • Drive Architectural Strategy: Drive key architectural decisions in our transition to microservices, including technology selection, service decomposition strategy, and defining best practices for our future Golang-based distributed services. Your vision will directly shape the foundation of our core platform for years to come.
  • Collaborate for Impact: Work closely with product managers, data scientists, other engineering teams and business stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that protect our customers from fraud.
  • Innovate in Anti-Fraud: Lead the Engine Modernization initiative, overseeing the architecture and development of high-availability distributed services in Golang that form the backbone of our new anti-fraud platform.

What We Offer

  • We are committed to investing in the tools and people that will build our future.
  • Dedicated Growth Budget: A dedicated budget for professional development, including technical conferences (like GopherCon or KubeCon), specialized training, and certifications in areas like AWS/GCP and modern development practices.
  • Mandate for Modernization: A clear mandate to upskill the team in high-demand technologies, including Golang and building high-availability distributed systems.
  • Career-Defining Experience: The opportunity to lead a major architectural transformation, providing invaluable experience in building, scaling, and running modern, resilient systems from the ground up.

Who You Are

  • Proven Leader: You have 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Technically Adept: You have a strong background in software development, with hands-on experience in building and operating distributed systems. Experience with Golang is a significant plus.
  • Architectural Vision: You have experience with microservices architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, etc.), and the challenges of migrating from monolithic systems.
  • Excellent Communicator: You can clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and can foster a culture of open communication.
  • Product-Focused: You are passionate about building products that solve real-world problems for customers.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building products that enable business users to define and manage rules for real-time execution.
  • Familiarity with geolocation spoofing techniques and anti-fraud measures.
